Privacy or paranoia?
It would appear that I'mnot the only onewho's worried about the privacy situation in this country. Unfortunately I fear that a lot of people couldn't give 2 hoots and will continue to give up their freedoms for greater convenience. To paraphrase the response on the topic, from a friend: “We're not living in dictatorship. Why should this bother me? I'm not doing anything wrong!".
And people wonder why I want to move out of this country.
Exim4, Courier, SpamAssassin and RoundCube
Having broken my non-production mail server a few days ago, I decided it was about time to actually get around to fixing it. I don't intend using it as my primary mail server, but more as a mirror of my ISP's account - at least until I have a private colocated box again, on a decent line that can handle my mail. Some how I don't think my home line (read: me) will be happy with all of the various mailing lists coming at it.
500 times a day
It's suggested out there on the world wide web (so it must be true), that in Britain you are caught on camera anywhere upto 500 times a day. I worry about this. For a guy who works from home a lot, I worry for an inordinate amount of time about this. What if I'm suddenly deemed to be “unusual traffic” and get flagged? Do "they" have the right to monitor what we do every day?
Us childish? Never…
It seems that the new php.net website has implemented some soundex-esque system to automatically redirect bad links. It doesnt seem to be have any filtering on it at all, so you can get some rather interesting results;
php.net/cunt -> php.net/count
php.net/fuck -> php.net/faq
php.net/dildo -> php.net/delete
php.net/nude -> php.net/newt I'm so tempted to google bomb at least one of those, the childish person that I am.
I apologise for anyone who I've offended with rude language, and hereby incriminate Theoas the source of said childishness.
Wt (Witty): A Widget Toolkit, for the Web
I've been looking at Wt(pronounced Witty), via Heartlesson #php, for the last 30 minutes or so. I've got to say, I'm pretty impressed.
The name and concept seems inspired from Qt, or perhaps WxWidgets, and is quite robust. Hardly pretty at this stage and I've not yet hacked anything together, but quite cool. Especially if you insist on using C++ to develop your websites.
Edit: Paul / Chiphas a very good point on using Wt;
Restoring my faith in Human Nature
During my travels today I've met quite a lot of really nice people. I may have only met them for a few moments, but during those minutes I've felt my faith in [good] “Human Nature” being restored. Online I find this good nature almosteverywhere I visit, but almost never in “real life”.
First off I met a really nice Social Worker from Africa who was getting her clutch done, and shortly after, whilst I was struggling with my stuff in the Ikea car park, a really nice French man helped me get my remaining purchases in the car.
