I've got the power

I wonder if the bean counters at Sage can afford an additional letter in their slogan?

Power to ruin your business. Sage

Sounds much more realistic to me.

  1. During the course of work I often come across various Sage products, and usually this ends up with amplified ranting in various IRC channels. For those who are present in those channels I apologise as you've already heard this.

    To those who don't know

  2. Did a recent SHR install for a client after the had struggled getting it done even with Sage help. Sage apps have bloated heavily over the last few years and I have always had problems with support when I mention the data being stored on a Linux box / Samba share. I was told eventually all Sage products will need MS-SQL so it surprised me to see MySQL-w32 used for SHR esp as they are MS Cert Gold partners? Why not MSQL Express or Pervasive [or other proprietary blobs] Got me thinking though, wondererd if I could get it talking to MySQL on my Linux server?

  3. There definitely seems to be some ambiguity with the Sage product line at the moment. I recall having a very similar conversion with Sage not so long ago, questioning whether or not we'd see a MySQL version of Line 200, etc.

On the topic, Sage HR was actually what caused this particular rant, if I remember correctly (although I could be a little wrong).

You'd probably be able to get Sage running against MySQL on your *ix box, but the big problem, as always would be support. In the inevitable circumstance where you'd need to speak to Sage any chance that they saw to blame something out of the norm they would. Sadly it is a good support policy for medium-large vendors :(

All I can comment on is that I'm happy I very, very rarely have anything to do with Sage.
