RAM allocation on Windows 2003 64 bit server?

If you're running a Windows 2003 64 bit server, with hot memory capabilities, which are disabled, and you're missing about 1GB of RAM (by missing I mean allocated, but not actually being used by anything), then take a look at method 1 of MS KB913568. It's resolved the issue on a pair of IBM x3650 servers we've had at work.

Where does the time go?

we're half way through February, and I've barely written anything at all. Here's a run down of some interesting stuff that happened;

  • I've been made a mod at the LFS forums
  • I'm currently reading the CCNA books, again, to refresh myself and force myself into doing the exams this year
  • I've been persuading myself on and off that I need a new phone, I'm currently split over the iPhone for several reasons. If you think it sucks, get in touch!
  • I'm looking for a place of my own
  • Loads of stuff happening at work, at the moment, and Dave is off on his jollies next week

Thankless job?

I've written in the past about how being a system, network, or desktop, administrator can be a thankless job.

In the last few days I've come across exceptional service from one such person who works for PlusNet, of all people. For those who are unfamiliar, PlusNet are a UK ADSL ISP who are well known for having connection problems, email loss, etc. However, if the rest of their staff are now like James, then I would happily recommend them as an ISP. He appeared on the Live For Speed forums and helped out with a newly migrated customer who was experiencing throttling problems.

Perhaps when I migrate next I'll give them a go, but for now I pass on by thanks for helping the community and being a stellar administrator.

No FTP on ftp.uk.debian.org?

I must've missed some announcement as ftp.uk.debian.org only responds on HTTP, at the moment...
