System Administrator appreciation day

Yesterday was system administrator appreciation day. You missed it.

However, for the up and coming year here's a good list of how you can make the life of your resident IT expert easier. Honest.

For the love of god

We don't need more open source licences. This means you BCS. What on earth has possessed this professional body to even consider this? Lets be honest; unless you've got some obscure caveat most things licencees and licencers care about are covered under the MIT (or similar), Apache, one of the Gnu licence family, or the Creative Commons?!

Die Hard Four... Point Oh

Plenty can be said, and has been said, about Die Hard 4.0. Personally I actually thought it was pretty good - it was a Die Hard film, over the top, testosterone filled fun. So good I've actually seen it twice (what can I say? I like Die Hard). However as a geek there were a few issues which I found funny and saddening, some of which Penny Arcade bring up nicely.

The whole "four point oh" was pretty funny as well and made me wonder if they were actually taking the piss out of "web 2.0" or trying to be cool. I know which I'd prefer. Without wanting to spoil it further for anyone who may not have seen the film, I'll leave it at that.

Cuteness

As many are probably aware I'm keenly interested in body modification, but it's not something I tend to comment on much; at least via the ever popular blog at least.

However, this post appeared on modblog and I've just got to say that's so cute!

Zero day auction

In my opinion today is a bad day as the first public zero day exploit equivilent for ebay is launched.

Whilst selling zero day exploits isn't new making a public market place is going to make things more interesting and more accessible for certain groups. However, perhaps this is just what the software industry needs to kick it into shape. After all how many times has a system been exploited to prove a point? I know I've done it and I can name several other people as well.
